RISCA Seeks Grants Administration Intern

The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts seeks an intern with an interest arts administration, who wants to learn about the grant and fellowship process. The intern will be working with Individual Artists Program Director Mollie Flanagan to manage the spring grant cycle for individual artist grants, including fellowships and project grants for individuals. This includes reviewing grant applications for completeness and eligibility; tracking grant applications by category; preparing fellowship applications for panel review; and attending panel review meetings and taking notes. Based on the intern’s interests and skills, additional projects may include: work on the professional development workshop series; online marketing and content creation; assistance with RISCA’s strategic planning process; or program development. Internship includes mentorship from staff members, intern instigated projects, professional development, and a close up view of the day to day operations of a state arts agency.

RISCA is currently seeking an intern for April and May 2019. The intern is expected to work approximately 10-12 hours a week, exact hours are flexible and some work may be done from home. Some hours will be at RISCA offices, open Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm, located at 1 Capitol Hill, Providence, RI. This program may be used by undergraduate and graduate students to obtain academic credit from their institution, but is also open to applicants not currently enrolled in an academic institution. Unfortunately, this internship is unpaid, but we will do our best to ensure a positive learning experience focused on what you want to explore.

Apply for Mabel Art Residency at Norman Bird Sanctuary

In September 2019, the Norman Bird Sanctuary will be hosting their inaugural artist residency in Middletown, RI. The residency will provide time and space for artists of exceptional talent to make work inspired by the rich history and breathtaking landscape of the area called Paradise Valley. The residency provides exclusive use of a studio on the sanctuary property, private accommodations in the Paradise Farmhouse, and three meals a day for up to four weeks. There are no residency fees. Artists will need to cover their own transportation to/from the residency and bring any supplies necessary for their work.

They are accepting applications from artists working in the following disciplines: architecture, dance,  film/video arts, interdisciplinary arts, music composition, and visual arts. They welcome mid-career as well as established artists to apply. Applicants who are enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree programs as of the date of application are ineligible for a residency and therefore cannot apply.

Financial Management For Nonprofits Workshop

LISC Neighborhood Development Fund Education Series presents Part II of LISC’s Financial Management Workshops: Strengthening Nonprofit Leaders in Financial Management. Scholarships Available for the Alliance of Artists Communities Conference

The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts is pleased to offer Rhode Island’s arts leaders the opportunity to attend the Alliance of Artists Communities’ 2017 Conference. RISCA is offering two $500 scholarships to a Rhode Island-based artist or arts leader to subsidize conference registration, travel, and lodging for this event. Conference registration is $350 for scholarship recipients, and attendees are asked to register by the early bird registration deadline. Applications are due August 1, 2018. LISC Rhode Island presents The Fine Art of Networking

As part of their four part Nonprofit Leadership Education Series, LISC Rhode Island is hosting a roundtable discussion about best practices on networking. Facilitated by LISC Rhode Island executive director, Jeanne Cola, panelists are Brenda Clement, Betty-Jo Cugini, Eileen Hayes, and Peter Mello. CreativeGround Office Hours at RISCA

NEFA is excited to have Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (RISCA) host our CreativeGround team in Providence, RI on May 30th! Members of our staff will facilitate office hour sessions to provide guidance on updating user profiles on CreativeGround to meet roster profile minimum requirements.

What is CreativeGround? CreativeGround is NEFA’s regional online directory of artists, cultural nonprofits, and creative businesses. Among many other dynamic features and functions, CreativeGround allows artists to display their designation as a vetted member of various New England State Arts Agency rosters. For example, Rhode Island’s Education Roster* can be found here.

Our May 30th office hours are specifically for Teaching Artists on RISCA’s Rhode Island Education Roster. Teaching artists on the roster can sign up for a timeslot by clicking the button below:

Common Fence Music seeks Board Members

 The Common Fence Music Board of Directors finds itself in great need of additional board members.  We are looking to our community for people who are passionate about preserving folk music traditions and promoting cultural exchange.

For 25 years, the CFM board has worked hard to bring our valued community excellent music and educational programming, but our small non-profit is not sustainable without additional funding, and in order to raise funds and apply for grants we need the staff to do the legwork.

We are looking for members of our community who are interested in a rewarding position on our board, particularly to seek out large and small monetary gifts and assist in grant writing. We are also in need of someone with bookkeeping and budgeting skills. Do you have experience in any of these areas, or know someone who does? If so, we’d love to talk with you! Don’t think you have the time? Any one of us is happy to grab a hot drink with you to discuss what being a board member entails.

In addition to the satisfaction that comes with keeping CFM’s programs alive, benefits to being on our board include being part of an awesome team of motivated music lovers, and an annual invitation to our legendary volunteer appreciation cookout!
